Iran to Use New Drone for Air Defense, Bombing Missions

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian military commander said that the country"s newly unveiled Haazem (Determination) drones are multi-purpose and multi-range vehicles with air-defense, reconnaissance and aerial bombardment capabilities.

Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli stressed that Iran"s defense industries enjoy a high capability in designing and producing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and stated that Haazem is a drone designed and manufactured by Iranian air defense experts in three short, mid and long range models and for air defense missions.

He said that the drone can be used as a target for air defense systems and also for reconnaissance missions.

Esmayeeli said the UAV can also be equipped with missiles and used for aerial bombardments as well.

Last month, Iran announced that it has started using UAVs for its air defense units as part of its broader plans for strengthening the country"s air defense capability.

Speaking to reporters on the occasion of the National Day of Air Defense here in Tehran on September 3, Esmayeeli said Iran has equipped its air defense units with Haazem drones.

IRGC: Drone Incident Indicates Inefficiency of Israel"s Iron Dome

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Monday that claims about a drone"s penetration into the Israeli anti-aircraft and radar systems in a region near its important Dimona nuclear reactor displays inefficiency of Israel"s Iron Dome and missile shields, if true

"If the incident is not (part of) psychological warfare, it shows the inefficiency of the Zionist regime"s Iron Dome (Israel"s defensive solution to short-range rocket threats) and defense shield," Deputy Coordinator of the IRGC Brigadier General Jamaleddin Aberoumand said in a press conference in Tehran on Monday.

"Their (the Zionists) claim that the drone has infiltrated 100km into the occupied territories indicates that the Zionist regime has abundant weaknesses," he added

Sunday reports said that the drone was flying over the Yatir forest in the South Mount Hebron area on Saturday and the Israeli army was trying to figure out what its destination was

The Israeli army is feeling too worried over the incident because its forces allege they had hit the drone kilometers after it infiltrated all Israeli missile shield and radar systems, and just a few kilometers away from the Dimona nuclear center

One of the possibilities the security establishment is looking into is that the unmanned aircraft was on its way to test the option of infiltrating the nuclear reactor in Dimona

The Israeli Ynet News sought to accuse Iran or the Lebanese Hezbollah group of flying the drone. Ynet claimed in a report that such an incident would mark a psychological victory for Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, whose leader Hassan Nasrallah recently threatened to attack strategic targets in Israel, including power plants

"Operating a drone by remote control from such a long distance requires advanced capabilities, which Israel was not aware Hezbollah had acquired," the Israeli media said

"By examining the drone"s parts, the army hopes to find out whether the drone was controlled from a command center in Lebanon or was directed by a space-based satellite navigation system (GPS) according to predetermined coordinates. If that were the case, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) may have directed itself automatically and was supposed to return to its base or self-destruct over the sea," it added.

Israel no longer a threat to Iran: IRGC deputy commander
TEHRAN, Sept. 23 (MNA) -- The deputy commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps has said that the Zionist regime no longer constitutes a threat to Iran.

“Today, we have crossed the boundary of concern about the threats of the Zionist regime,” Brigadier General Hossein Salami stated in an interview published on Sepah News, which is the official website of the IRGC, on Sunday.

“Israel has bitter memories of confrontation with regional (allies) of the Islamic Republic during the wars of the past decade. Now, how can it be a threat to the Islamic Republic of Iran?”

Salami added, “Only a single infantry battalion of ours would be able to break the back of this regime, which only has a width of 24 kilometers in some areas, in a day.”

“Iran has reached such a zenith that an attack on it is no longer put on the political agenda of the superpowers. The level of deterrence has risen to the extent that the idea of starting and imposing another war no longer exists in the mind and belief of all the major powers, and Islamic Iran is a known great power,” he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the IRGC deputy commander stated, “Our doctrines are defensive at the level of (grand) strategy, but our strategies and tactics are offensive. This means that we will not start a war, but if someone starts a war against us, we will be all offensive and will attack relentlessly and will not stop.”

“Our missile capability (is such that we) can target and largely destroy any enemy base in the region at any distance. We have the expertise to manufacture all modern missiles,” he added.

Israel’s bark is worse than its bite: Majlis speaker

Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Sunday that the isolated Zionist regime has been left with no option but to shout and threaten Iran.

Commenting on the wave of the Islamic Awakening rolling across the Muslim world, Larijani stated, “The dictators subservient to Western countries have fallen, and more important than this is Israel’s isolation, and now, Israel has no other option but to shout to save itself and say, ‘I am alive.’”

The fact that Israel has been isolated is a “very important” issue, Larijani said, adding, “It is threatening Iran to stabilize its situation

Bibi\s Cartoon Bomb

Commentary:

Bibi"s Cartoon Bomb

TEHRAN (FNA)- Commander of Iran"s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari has said Iran"s armed forces are fully ready to deter the enemy"s provocations.

Jafari also said the reason the enemies have stopped using the language of threat and military strike is because they have finally realized that their war rhetoric will have no impact on Iran"s resolve, and that under international law the country will continue its civilian nuclear program come what may.

However, Jafari further said despite the new development, Iranian commanders will continue to take any American-Israeli drumbeat of war seriously, because in the past these warmongers have eventually gone beyond threats and attacked and invaded countries like Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, and Libya.

It is the Iranian commander"s final statement that once again begs the question of whether an Israeli war against Iran is inevitable before the November presidential election in the US - despite Washington"s toned-down rhetoric? Well, the "long-overdue battle" apparently got a boost recently, when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, addressing the UN General Assembly, once again claimed that Iran"s nuclear program is a threat to global peace and security.

But this time something was rather different and odd. Netanyahu held up a diagram during his speech, supposedly showing Iran"s progress toward a bomb, drawn in the crude shape of a cartoon bomb that many four-year-olds could have also produced using MS Paint! He took out a red magic marker to draw on the chart depicting an alleged Iranian nuclear weapons program.

Needless to say, some mainstream media outlets were quick to react. They teased the Israeli prime minister by saying that "Netanyahu"s endless warnings about "the Iranian threat" are just as cartoonish as his bomb."

Netanyahu"s bizarre cartoon bomb also got some reaction from Tehran. For instance, Iran"s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Israel long ago crossed the "red line" and remains the only regime in the Middle East with a nuclear weapons arsenal.

Aside from Netanyahu"s cartoon bomb, we know that it was at the same UN gathering earlier that US President Barack Obama had said time was running out to find a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. "The United States will do what we must to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon," he said.

Under the circumstances, it is, therefore, wise for the Iranian military brass and officials to take any war rhetoric seriously and be ready for any wrenching round of American-Israeli deployments to the region - even though the Washington pundit class and conventional wisdom suggest the war-weary Americans and well-informed populace do not support another senseless war.

The Obama administration seemingly complains about Israel"s escalation of war rhetoric, but it is immature to assume that Tel Aviv is not at it again without the endorsement of the Capitol Hill. More importantly, the well-informed populace knows that the US (and Israel) and its overgrown military complex is addicted to war and cannot kick militarism or a crusade to spread "democratic capitalism" in the Middle East, and reshape the region through Iran and Syria - after failing to do so in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon.

But American pundits are also agreed that Iran is not Iraq or Afghanistan, and that if the ever-deepening militarization of US policy turns its guns toward Iran, "it would threaten to leave the US isolated and bankrupt, both morally and economically."

On the other hand, the truth is that Washington, Israel and their allies have already been at war with Iran since the victory of its Islamic Revolution back in 1979. Since then, they have been waging a campaign of unilateral sanctions, assassinations, terror, cyber-warfare, and covert operations against Iran in a bid to stop its growing regional influence and/or its nuclear energy program among others. Needless to say, Iran has stood its ground, but if it had taken similar actions toward Israel or the US, they would have certainly considered it a declaration of open war.

So the recent statement by Iran"s top military commander that "Iran"s armed forces are fully ready to deter the enemy"s provocations" does really fit with a perfectly rational strategic calculus, because since 1979, Iran has been trying to preserve stability in the region by counterbalancing the aggressive Washington-Tel Aviv axis.

As for Netanyahu"s cartoonish claim that in less than a year Iran will cross the red line and build an alleged nuclear bomb, it suffices to remember that back in 1992, as a Member of the Knesset, Netanyahu predicted that Iran was "three to five years" from a nuclear weapon. He was wrong in 1992, and he is wrong now! Ehud Barak - now Bibi"s Defense Minister - also said in 1996 that Iran would have a nuke by 2004! He was also wrong!

Why? Because based on a recent report by the Board of Governors at the International Atomic Energy Agency, "the IAEA is confident about the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities in Iran, and can conclude that all nuclear materials in Iran are in peaceful activities."

In other words, an honest reading of the IAEA report does show that despite Netanyahu"s allegations and memory loss, there is little anticipation that Iran is close to or even interested in a nuclear weapons program

Iran\s Opposition to US Relations

Commander Underlines Iran"s Opposition to US Relations

TEHRAN (FNA)- An Iranian top military official deplored the US wrong domestic and international policies, and stated that resumption of ties between Iran and the US will not be possible as long as Washington continues hegemonic and pro-Israeli policies.

"As declared by the great Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Iran"s ties with the US will be the relations of sheep and wolf and the relations with the US administration will not be in the interest (of Iran) until the US remains inhuman," Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Seyed Hassan Firouzabadi said, addressing a group of ranking Iranian officials on Tuesday.

"Today the US statesmen have shown that they are prisoners of Zionists, super-capitalists and British Freemasons," Firouzabadi said.

He pointed to the US support for the Quds occupying regime, Washington"s meddling in Syria, production of sacrilegious movie against Islam"s Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), the US administration"s support for homosexuality and abortion and the growing number of bankrupt and poor families in the US as evidence testifying that the US statesmen are prisoners of Israel"s policies.

Firouzabadi further noted that Iran"s ties with the US will not be in the interest of Iran as long as current conditions remain unchanged in the United States and while the US does not allow the rule of real democracy and does not respect for people"s rights to vote.

The United States and Iran broke diplomatic relations in April 1980, after Iranian students seized the United States" espionage center at its embassy in Tehran. The two countries have had tense relations ever since.

Yet, relations between the two arch foes specially deteriorated following Iran"s progress in the field of civilian nuclear technology. Iran says its nuclear program is a peaceful drive to produce electricity so that the world"s fourth-largest crude exporter can sell more of its oil and gas abroad. The US and its western allies allege that Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapons program while they have never presented corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations against the Islamic Republic

Commander: Iran Well Aware of Soft Points of US Apache Choppers

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian army commander stressed vulnerability of the US and Israeli armies" Apache choppers, and stated that Iran has spent lots of time and energy on pinpointing the weak points of these combat helicopters.

"They (Americans) know well that their choppers are vulnerable and for that reason they have protected some sensitive parts and some layers of these choppers, but this is not true about all the body of these choppers and we, too, have focused on their weak points," Head of the Organization of Research and Self-Sufficiency Jihad of the Iranian Army Ground Force General Seyed Massoud Zawarehei told FNA on Tuesday.

"All in all, choppers are surely vulnerable and cannot be coated by a layer of steel," the commander added.

His remarks came a few days after Iran unveiled Shaher 14.5mm sniper rifle. The rifle is capable of targeting and destroying concrete strongholds, armored vehicles and choppers.

In February 2010, an Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) official announced that Iran has designed a new kind of surface-to-air missiles to bring down the United States" much boasted Apache choppers.

"Enemies should not imagine that if their Apache choppers have shown a mighty and desirable performance in Iraq and Afghanistan, they can show the same might and power in a possible aggression against Iran. We will certainly put an end to the power of their Apaches through our measures," Colonel Nasser Arab-Beigi, the head of IRGC"s Self-Sufficiency Jihad Organization, made the remarks in an exclusive interview with FNA at the time.

Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.

Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country"s military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country

Commander: UN Members Demanding Inspection of Israel"s N. Facilities

TEHRAN (FNA)- Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said Israel"s nuclear arsenal has turned into a major source threat to international peace and security and many UN member states are now demanding an immediate inspection of Israel"s atomic facilities due to the same concern.

The Iranian commander said that even many members of the United Nations have expressed their worry about this regime"s nuclear activities and have called officials in charge for checking Israel"s nuclear facilities as soon as possible.

Israel is believed to be the sole possessor of nuclear arms in the Middle East with over 200 ready-to-launch warheads in its stockpile.

During the last three decades, the Islamic Republic of Iran has seized every opportunity to make the international bodies aware of the threat posed by the Zionist regime"s nuclear weapons to the world community.

In the 56th annual meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Iran"s Residing Representative to IAEA Ali Asqar Soltaniyeh lashed out at the UN Security Council for its inaction vis-à-vis the nuclear activities of the Israeli regime.

Iran, a Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) signatory, has also called for the removal of all weapons of mass destruction from across the globe.

In pursuit of global nuclear disarmament, Tehran held a conference on nuclear disarmament on April 18-19, 2010 with officials from different world countries in attendance. During the two-day conference, world officials and politicians put their heads together to address issues and concerns in connection with nuclear disarmament.

Despite Iran"s compliance with the NPT, Washington and its Western allies accuse the country of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Political observers believe that the United States has remained at loggerheads with Iran mainly over the independent and home-grown nature of Tehran"s nuclear technology, which gives the Islamic Republic the potential to turn into a world power and a role model for the other third-world countries. Washington has laid much pressure on Iran to make it give up the most sensitive and advanced part of the technology, which is uranium enrichment, a process used for producing nuclear fuel for power plant.
